Thinking of My Mom...

Saturday, September 30, 2006

Today's General Conference, and I have such cool little memories of our G.C. experiences growing up. We used to live so far away from the church, so we'd pack up stuff for an entire day's visit. On Saturdays, we were allowed to bring a few toys, books, and other distractions. We'd sit in the R.S. room, make little "chair forts" and nest into them for a session, and enjoy the soothing tones of spiritual old men while we played.
On Sundays, though, we had to dress up, couldn't bring toys, and actually had to listen to what was being said. The small allowance my mom made was that we could cross-stitch, since that was using our hands, not our higher-level listening skills.
Both days, we'd pack a picnic lunch, and since Conference always falls during the most beautiful times of the year, we'd get to go to parks or gardens and have picnics.

I love so many of the choices my mom made raising us. (DAd, too, of course...) I love the skills she had and the things she taught us. I love that she raised us in a big family. I love that I get to try every day to be more like her.

I hope my own children someday will see some of what I will do, and will be proud.

I REALLY like my job this year. Weird.

i mean, it is still work, so it's not PERFECT, but it is pretty cool. THe kids make me laugh, mostly, and I can usually keep things manageable in the paper-load department.

So, all that crabbiness/stress from last week has faded, and now I am just feeling excited for fall, in love with joe, and basically at peace with life.

Here are some random pictures. Because you all like the pictures best, anyhow.

[our Limoges porcelain, shipped from France, where we bought it for a LITTLE less than it costs here. Pretty, eh?]

joe and i have been married TWO years!

Saturday, September 23, 2006

so i made this layout for my album.... the list says:
"After two years, Joe and I...
love each other's families
drink orangina
love our bed
know how to make each other laugh
make time for fun
are ready for a baby
have made our Mason Lodge a home
are addicted to naps
love festivals, markets, and fairs
listen to each other's music
try to be selfless with one another
finish each other's sentences
pray together
are even more in love
are ready for 58 more...

I love this life... love my man.

CRAAAAAZZZY LIFE. I NEED A BREAK.

this is what i WISH i could do all day for seven days in a row....
Because all of a sudden my life seems to be spiraling out of control. Meetings, obligations, house upkeep, Mason dinners, church stuff, grading papers (*blugh*), laundry, etc. etc..... And it all seems to happen in one big clot. So I feel stretched. And i am out of practice being stretched after a long luxurious summer off.... GRRRR!

And it is becoming my favorite season, and feels so great outside, but i am so rarely free to just soak it in, that i am grieving it... watching it pass me by.

Maybe i am just super grumpy today since i am just now, at 8:50 pm, getting home from an entire day in my freezing classroom and high school library... TRAPPED.

Tomorrow will be better. I will make it so. Lots of deep breaths, maybe some loud music, and
any other mini-joy i can find in the day. Maybe a Mountain Dew.
Maybe a nap, like in this picture.
*sigh*

This is the perfect dog.

my sister-in-law's toy poodle Maximus is the perfect little thing ever. He wins everybody's hearts over and should be cloned.

I wish we had dogs.

[reminds me of Moulin Rouge, so I doctored it up as best as I could in Photoshop... FUN!]

Paris was so amazing. And hard on our feet. Just being honest.

We are PRINCESSES!!!

Tuesday, September 12, 2006

So, Mary and I are closet divas, and really more vain than we let on, so we set up a photo session complete with princess dresses and beautiful settings... and here are only the first tastes of this decadent evening. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
We are so pwetty!

(check out the couple of posts beneath this one, since i have FINALLY been able to post pics.)
for a week now, i have been unable to post any pictures to this blog. Its blogger's fault. I am frustrated and annoyed, since there are so many fun pictures i could post. *sigh* Any suggestions?

UPDATE: small little files seem to work, but nothing from Photoshop. Stupid, stupid. I hate this.
p.s. sarah, i know you hate this photo, but it makes me laugh so hard, and there IS an explanation written on the photo itself that you are acting silly... not naturally Special Ed. *wink*

Labor Day... Having fun with photos

all i am going to say is that i think Blogger needs some fixin', since it took me a week to get these to post.

On another note, AREN'T WE DARN CUTE???

my cute cute baby sister Kirsti:

Sunday, September 3, 2006

she was one of our houseguests this weekend, and we had a blast. I took her photos yesterday for a talent agency thingy, and then today, on our quiet sunday afternoon, i helped her "scraplift" an elsie flannigan page layout for one of her photos. I love love love the finished product, and wish i could keep it. But alas, i taught her so she could have something to take with her. so i scanned it so i have a copy to keep forever.
Isn't it great??
It was so nice to have my parents and kirsti for two days... lots of catching up, sharing of stories and ideas and tips, and lots of good food. Honestly, though, i am really looking forward to tomorrow, an empty day with just cute joe and me... peaceful.
good nite!

Crazy Saturday.

Saturday, September 2, 2006

today has been very busy... Mom, Dad, Kirsten, and William have been in town visiting, and we have done MANY things today: cleaned the Masonic Lodge inside and out, went to the zoo, made a big fun dinner, went to the Japanese Festival at the Botanical Gardens, and so on and so forth. Phew! Very intense.
I have not had much time to create art, per se, but it seems that there is an art to living the day-to-day stuff as well. so. I will add a few pictures of fun layouts i have done recently, even if they weren't made fresh today. Enjoy. They make me smile.
